How can shops like Poundland afford to sell brands like Rimmel at such a low cost?

They sell expensive brands of make-up for 拢1 when usually it would cost about 拢3.50 in other chemists.

How do they do this and still make a profit? How can shops like Poundland afford to sell brands like Rimmel at such a low cost?
They buy in such bulk that it costs them pennies per item, so they can still make a profit even on 拢1.How can shops like Poundland afford to sell brands like Rimmel at such a low cost?
Poundland sell broken and damaged goods, pay their staff wages that should be criminal, and profit from the suffering of others.

I've never heard of Poundland...is it like Wal-Mart in the states? If it is its a similiar situation. Wal-mart dominates the retail market, almost to the point of being a monopoly, and so they can saturate their stores with lower prices there for putting the smaller businesses out of business, and then expanding their consumer base even further...they don't pay much for their laborers and they offer virtually no benefits. In fact, most Wal-mart workers make well below the wage that is considered poverty level. So they are paying out a crap load less than they are making and can afford to offer a lower price because they don't lose much in wages paid out to their employees. Its a vicious cycle but, I digress. I went completely off subject.
They put brand labels on their shelves to incourage customers to look all around their stores for other branded products. Customers doing this will automatically do what is called impulse buying and spend more than they intended to.
They buy them from other counties.

Alot of the stuff is covered in Arabic writing.

They buy up bankrupt and liquidated stock from other retailers going out of business.
Mass volume...quantity vs. quality.

Brand name covered over by another label.
